Mixed Media on Canvas
Marie Powell combines printmaking and painting to create an image on canvas that has a textured surface with intricate designs. Marie’s hand-printed papers are created with unique colors and designs, and are collaged onto the canvas. The main image is then drawn onto the surface. Several abstraction techniques have become a definite style for Marie’s work. These include flattening and simplifying the image, using saturated intense color, and emphasizing line drawing.
The painting medium is high quality, lightfast acrylic paint. Each painting is finished with 3 layers of Golden Archival Varnish which contains a UV filter component.
Canvases are high quality gallery wrapped cotton canvas, usually with 1.5” to 2” depth.
The sides of the canvas are coated with acrylic paint and varnished, in order to be presented with or without framing.
